Every Memorial Day weekend all of our family gets together and goes to this place called camp alzafar, I've been going since I was little and just love it there. It's on the guadalupe river, there's a playground that was built in the 1930's, a tennis and basketball court, and a swimming pool. They also have a big pavilion where they either set up a live band or a dj for a dance. We spent alot of time at the river and the playground, those are our favorite spots. We usually get out on the dance floor with all the little kids so we can do the chicken dance, and then we do the cotton-eyed-joe and shottish. I ended u staying up there a few days this weekend, it was a blast. And to add to those things up there, my cousin and I went walking and ended up going on a pig hunt. We walked up the road and saw a group of wild pigs, he decides he's determined to catch one. he got about a 2 1/2 inch round stick to use to hit it and we tried to corner it, but it was really fast. I'm sure we looked silly, two young adults running around chasing pigs, but it was fun. Well, anyway that's how my weekend went, it was great.
Here's some pics.

In my almost 20 years of life, here are a few things I've learned:

1. Moms have eyes in the back of their heads: they see everything.

2.Eddie and the cruisers(movie and music)is cool.

3.Getting hit in the head by a ceiling fan going full blast isn't fun.

4.Neither is getting stuck in an elevator.

5.Never give a cat a bath unless your skin is fully covered.

6.The definition of "snarfing".

7.Volleyball is harder than it looks.

8.Geting inside a dryer and having a sibling turn it on isn't a smart idea.

9.Neither is jumping off a 2nd story balcony.

10.There is no such thing as a drawercase or a treestick, they're called chests of drawers and branches.

11.That you can concentrate better on what you're doing if you stick out the tip of your tongue(at least it works for me).

12.That using american sign language carelessly in another country can get you in trouble.

13.Homeschool is great-you can go to school in PJ's.

14.Driving standard is a little bit scary.

15.That my twin is evil.

16.Soccer is the best sport ever.

17.2 year olds are not terrible, they're sweet.

18.The definitions of "cow-tipping" and "snipe hunting"(it's a texas thing)

19.How to shoot a bow and arrow

20.There are all sort of things you can use for a hockey stick.

Hey guys, I'm back. I kinda got away from posting, it just didn't seem like fun for awhile. I just signed up for my intermediate level signing class, and it was supposed to start this Thursday. I was really looking forward to it, then I found out it got cancelled for lack of interest. Otstoy. That's a Russian word meaning sediment, or residue. They use it like, "man that stinks". My friend Daniel(he's American) from Radooga taught me that phrase, some kids over there taught it to him. He taught me one other phrase, "spaseeba za kharoshiva yoshika". It means, "thanks for the pretty hedgehog". Yesterday I had a really good time babysitting for a Bible study(my job Wednesday mornings), it was 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl, so Ashley and I were able to get a lot of one on one interaction with them, plus keep the TV off in the classroom. When we have a big group of kids it's harder to find enough to keep them all entertained and We don't like the TV b/c we don't think they need it. Some of the other teachers disagree, but I think the outside or books and art are better for their brains. We played a game with the little guys where they play wrestled me for my bandana and Ashley for her hat. They'd hide the stuff and the girls would find it. It was really alot of fun. Today we went to the Walmart with Bean, all of us wanted to do something without spending money so we went for a walk there. In the sporting goods section Ahley and Bean threw a football, And in the toy section they threw a frisbee and Bean hit a baseball. Then Ashley sat on a stuffed lion and Bean rode a bike. They're not as shy as I am, so I was trying to look like I wasn't with them without 'em catching on. Anyway, I don't wanna post too much at once, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive and what I'm up to. I'll write more later.

This weekend was our annual Bible conference here in town, had 3 preachers and a couple musical guests, with at least 50 people. I saw some friends I hadn't seen in awhile, Marisa being one of them. It was good to actually catch up in person, rather than thru blogging comments : ) . During break one nite, Royal and I went in the elevator to go hide on a floor from Josh, he gave us a minute to get to a floor then came after us, we'd done it once earlier. This time when we got in the elevator, it got stuck between the 6th and 7th floors. I picked up the phone and called the front desk, and then we just waited for them to get us out. I said to Royal, "this wouldn't be a good time for either of us to be claustrophobic." He and I neither one thought we were, but after a few minutes of being in there and pacing the elevator we started wondering if we might be. first we were standing there talking about how we weren't scared and being calm, because I've been stuck in an elevator before(last time i deserved it because my sisters and me were jumping in it). After a few minutes I freaked a little, because I heard an alarm , which I hadn't heard before, and it seemed like it took forever before the guy finally came. Then of course, Royal wasn't calm either. We paced a little, then sat down, and then Royal prayed. After that we calmed down, and just started talking. It wasn't much longer when the elevator started again and we got out. I think what made it harder for me this time getting stuck than the last one is that we had stuff with us last time to keep ourselves occupied, whereas Royal and I didn't, and it left us too much time to think. Now that it's over with the experience is funny to think about. I am sorry to Marisa that we never got to playing Scattergories, by the time we got out of the elevator it was too late for that. Altogether, I think the conference was quite enjoyable and some great speakers, plus we had a great hiding spot, and Josh never found us.

Hey Guys, as most of you know this past summer I went to Ukraine to teach english camp. While I was over there I made friends with some of the Ukranian staff and still keep in touch with them. Right now Ukraine is going thru a hard time with their government/president situation and alot of people are standing out on the streets day and night protesting for who they think is right. It really made me sad when I got these two emails from my friends:

This is a letter that my friend Halyna sent to me, things in her part of the country are not going well at all, I don't know about other places. Keep the Ukrainian people in your continuous prayers. Love, Kelsey

Hey Kelsey How are you my little dirl!!!!!!?????????
things in Ukraine are just horrible!!!!!!!! There is going to be a revolution I guess !!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything is so corruptive!!!!!!!!!! I just don't have words to express everything that I feel now!!!!!!!!! There hundreds of thousands of people in the Streets!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the lessonns are canceled in the University and alll the Students are at the Demonstrations. It's freezing here but people have spend 3 nghts outside now!!!!! I just came in the library for a half an hour to werite to you and to send an e card to your parents !!!!!!! I'm so cold but I'll have to go back in a while!!! PLEASE BE PRAYING FOR US, FOR JUSHCHENKO, AND FOR PEACEFUL OUTCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE Halyna

Dear friends!!!
I would like to ask you to pray for the Ukraine in connection with the situation, which is here. We have prayed for 2 nights this Tuesday and Wednesday. We don't want war in our country. Pray that God may bless our nation and prevent from war. We really need your prayer support. God is in control and we, as God's children must intercede for our country. I would like you to support us in prayer. You're close to our people because you were in involved in ministry in our country so I'd like you to participate in praying for Ukraine.
God bless!!! Ruslan

I decided to look online to see what I could find out, and actually was able to find a recent article on the yahoo news page. Actually there's a bunch of them:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/fc?cid=34&tmpl=fc&in=World&cat=Ukraine

I don't really know alot about Ukraine's history and government, but I know that the friends I made over there(as well as many more people) are going thru a rough time. I ask that you guys keep them in your prayers, thanks.

I have been interested in sign language for awhile, and 8 weeks ago I decided to sign up for a community course. It's been great, I love it, and my teacher tells me I do well at it. She says I have a broad vocabulary and a good memory, which will help alot. My goal is to speak fluently, so I will be looking into more classes. My teacher is an interpreter at church, which sounds like a pretty fun job. In December Pastor Kemble has a conference here, and I am going to get up and sign to the group, while Ashley interprets what I say. Then I'll sign a song, just to give everybody an idea of a deaf worship service. It was one of those ideas I had really late at nite and kept Ashley up longer than she planned because I was hyper and excited about it, I get that way when I have an idea I like. The other day we went to a mall with and went in this really cool place called build-a-bear workshop. what you do is pick the bear skin you want, then get it stuffed and sewed, then pick out clothes for it. It was so cute, and crazy with people. I don't think blogging is as in as fotopages right now, but I'm still posting until it's completely dead. Blessings yall, Alicia

i am disgusted to see what kind of an influence is on today's youth. y'all are probably thinking what's new, that's been going on a long time. well, i was watching tv(public television at that) the other day and saw a commercial i hadn't seen before. it was an ad for a new perfume by britney spears. the commercial was really tacky, and seemed to me that it was mor of an advertisement for sex. i work with children alot and it makes me angry to think that they could be sitting at home watching tv, and then a commercial comes on with britney spears(the greatest role model for every little girl), filling their minds with trash like that. then another thing that happened, i was looking for a skirt. i wanted a decent length, right below the knee, to wear with my boots. it was ridiculous how many places i had to call(department stores, discount stores, walmart, western wear places)before i found one that wasn't a mini skirt. none of the juniors' clothes carried any that long, the longest was about an inch above the knee and it had a slit up the back pretty high. i checked the women's departments, theirs weren't much better either. i even tried a western wear store, thnking they carried stuff like that for country girls who wanted their boots to be visible when wearing a skirt. that was really disappointing to hear their skirts were short too. Finally I found one that was right below my knee, and it wasn't too expensive and I love it. Where I'm going with this isn't, "Oh I love my cute new skirt", the point I'm making is that nowadays even if a girl wants to dress modestly, she has to try really hard to find anything decent. It seems that the main way the media is targeting today's teens is with sex, and that's just what was on my mind to write abt.

I have these shoes that I love. I've had them for a year or two, and they're falling apart. The thing is, I got them at a discount store and can't find another pair anyplace, it's really sad. Here's what they look like:
A couple weeks ago I went to Houston, and I saw this pair of shoes that I really liked. They're the same color and same sort of idea as my other shoes, but I can't decide if I like them well enough to replace my shoes. I found a picture online, and here's what they look like:
So, anyway, that's what the deal is. My shoes still can get a little more wear, or at least I think that they can(some of the rest of my family may not agree). I'll wear them until the stitching comes all the way undone, it's already starting to happen. Sort of a random post, but I thought I'd try to write different than usual.

Hey, it took awhile to post b/c I wasn't able to do it from my aunt's computer. As you've prolly already read on the blogs, we had a nice labor day weekend, I'm just gonna tell abt. it from my perspective. Friday Josh, my sisters, and I rode out to the mabritos to spend the nite, it was fun. A friend of ours, John, was also out there, I had a nice visit with him, as well as everybody else. Josh and John went to bed at a decent time, but while they were sleeping me, my sisters, and Renee, Chrispa, and Travis were giggling hysterically and having a good 'ol time. The next morning Josh woke me up early(that's when I wished I had of gone to bed earlier) and we read our Bibles on top of the water tower. After we had finished reading, we woke Travis and Jordan up to go on a little adventure, it was fun, and we got to taste some fruit from a cactus we found. Later on we headed out to Camp Alzafar, a shriner camp that's one of my favorite places to go. Here's the link-http://www.campalzafar.org. We spent most of our time at the river, first we went to one end and found this tree in the middle to jump off of into the water. We thought we were having an awesome time there, then Megan and Audrey suggested going to the other end. We were pretty doubtful abt having fun there, until Audrey showed us the cliff. The cliff was 12 or 13 ft. high, and the water where we jumped from it was a little over my head. At first it was scary, but then it was so awesome we couldn't quit jumping. After awhile we headed back up and ate, then headed back again. I said I was cold and wasn't going back in, but ended up doing it anyway. We got my cousin Stevi and her husband up there and to jump as well, it was great! Before we left, we had to spend alittle time on the maypole, my favorite thing on the playground. It's a pole with bars where you run in circles and jump to see who can last the longest. The next morning(well, by the time my gma and aunt came it was more like 11:00), I left for houston with my gma. to stay a week at my aunt's. My grandma has essential tremors, and there is a doctor that specializes in that up there. She went for a treatment(botox injections in her hands and neck) and we should know if they were effective any day now. There wasn't alot to do there while my aunt was at work and we were stuck at the house, except the internet and cable. I have old neighbors who live really close to my aunt's house, so one night I went over there and hung out with them, played with their baby(she is so cute!!) and played video games with their son. I ate dinner with them, and had some German potato salad, it was good. Then we looked at old pictures and visited, that was prolly the highlight of my trip. we came home friday, just in time for me to work GymJam, we had a fun relay race for the kids and a game calle the gauntlet they all loved. I think that's enough for y'all to read at one time, I'll post again sooner than I did this time.

This time I'm posting about VBS, because it was just over this past Friday. I worked as an elementary crew leader, and had three of my cousins traveling with me. It was so cool to get to see them get excited about worship and wanting to learn more, and understanding how the games we played every day somehow related to God. I was really happy to hear my cousins answering questions and singing too. We sang here I am to worship and at the part where they say "I'll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross" and they say it abt 4 times, we were reaching toward the cross and our arms were getting sore. One of the ladies leading the singing told the kids even though our arms are getting a little tired, while we're reaching toward this cross think about how much Jesus sacrificed for us, and just holding our arms up for that short time is a small sacrifice we can make to show Him how much what He did means to us. I just really thought it was a neat way of putting it and it made me think that even though my time is not as big of a sacrifice, I could be giving more of it to Him than I do. Anyway, VBS is awesome, wish it wasn't over.

Sorry it took so long to finally get around to my second day, it took awhile because I've been busy. First my 19th birthday came around and I celebrated it with family and friends, then at the ned of the day I got the best present ever. Ashley came home after 22 days of neither of us seeing each other, so we had some catching up to do. Okay, enough of the mushiness, here's my post:

This morning I woke up feeling a little rested and really hungry because I hadn't eaten much the night before. Breakfast was mashed potatoes and beef I think, it was good and normal; not normal for breakfast but nonetheless it tasted good. We had our first Bible study at the first of orientation, we broke into groups of 5 each with a leader from the A.S.S.(All Summer Staff, which Oleg later changed to All Summer American Personel when he realized what the abbreviation spelled. We had alot of fun with that during the week. : ) Our leader is named Calyn, she's from Florida and is really sweet. We read in Genesis 28 abt. Jacob's dream and that it took a dream like that for him to realize that God was with Him. Then we discussed times in our lives where we may have had a situation that God had to remind us He was there for us. We prayed, and then came back together to have orientation and get assigned to different teams. Kimberly, Amber and me all got put on the rec team, which is good for me because I think my singing would scare the kids, and acting makes me nervous. Calyn is also the leader of rec, which means I will be spending time getting to know her this week. After we got assigned our jobs we went with our leaders to discuss times we'd be working and what we'd be doing, and then came back together to get paired up with a translator for teaching english. My translator is named Marina, she is 20 and has a personality alot like Christa's so of course I like her. We will be spending a few hours of our time the next couple days getting to know each other and preparing our lessons. I am so nervous about english, I hope it goes okay. Even though it's only day 2 of camp, I can already see the team building relationships and working together. I think we'll all get along well.  There is a youth pastor here from Tampa named JJ whose wife is a twin, and b/c of that he and I have already connected. He brought 8 peeps with him and quite a few of them have homeschooled before. Well, dinner wasn't great tonite but was edible. We have another team meeting tonite just to discuss more stuff, then we're done for the day.

Monday, July 12, 2004

I decide I am going to start posting my journal entries I wrote while at camp a little bit at a time for y'all to read, starting with day one. Here goes:

I got up at 5:00 this morning because we had to be at the airport at 5:50. After abt. 13 hours of plane trips(which I did okay with being my first time to fly) plus checking bags, we got picked up at the Kiev airport at 12:00 pm their time and had a whole day ahead of us with no nap. When we got to camp we got settled in our rooms and then headed to lunch. It wasn't an extremely weird meal or anything, some hunk of meat and soup with some noodles and a cucumber on the side. After lunch we all wanted to sleep, but it was time for orientation. We met Oleg(head of camp) and his wife Lena, and played some team building games. Then Oleg told us a little abt. Radooga's history and goal. Radooga is the Ukranian word for Rainbow, and it symbolizes God's covenant of love that he made after the flood. What was really cool is after orientation we came outside and there was a rainbow. But anyway, back to Radooga's goal. Oleg says this generation of Ukranian youth, the "golden generation" he believes are easier to reach than the generations before because they are the first free generation. Because they are now free and looking for a better future, Radooga uses english teaching camps to bring them in, b/c english means better jobs for them. It's a great ministry outreach in my opinion. It's great that they are sending people over to help, especially since on the way over, the other half of the people on the plane were Jewish people going over to teach Hebrew language camps, and I'm guessing Judaism as well. It's awesome how kids come just to learn english and then leave with alot more than that. After we had our orientation, we headed to dinner. Dinner was buckwheat, it was disgusting and soupy so I didn't eat. When we were finished with dinner they showed us where the american office was, then we sang a few worship songs and headed to bed, because we were so exhausted.

We would greatly appreciate and covet your prayers while we are there. We have included a prayer list for everyday to inform you of the specific prayer needs. Due to the time difference Ukraine is 8 hours ahead of San Antonio, and because of this the best time for you to pray would be between the hours of 11 am - 1 pm CST (Central Standard Time). Radooga's website is: www.radooga.com , where they will be posting updates of the camp every day. This will contain testimonies from both the American and Ukrainian

Gospel. They are the easiest generation to reach for Jesus Christ. Please continue to lift up the country of Ukraine in prayers as it struggles to become a thriving, united, independent country. Thank you again for your prayers!!! They are needed!!

Hey guys,
how's everyone been? I haven't made the blog rounds in awhile, I need to stop by and leave all of y'all a shoutout. Been at the pool alot, and for the past 3 days playing volleyball there as well. I hope to learn to play by the end of this summer. We had a friend over to hang out and we went down there nearly all day thursday and friday, it was fun. I am listening to a Chris Tomlin Cd, getting tired and cold. I leave for Ukraine next Sunday, I will try and post before then or while I'm there. Blessings y'all.

Hey guys, I was having some random thoughts in my head about what I think are some of the neatest things I've ever done in my life. I don't see how anybody could see or do things like these and not believe there's a God. Here's 5 that I came up with:

1. Love- without it I would have never experienced life, which is quite an exciting journey. Knowing how much God loves you is the awesomest experience ever. A verse that I'd like to add to this is John 15:13-
"Greater love hath no man than this than to lay down His life for his friends."

2. Holding a brand new baby- They're so perfect and flawless, because they haven't had time to do wrong. They bring so much joy without even trying.

3. Watching a sunset- I love to watch the sunset, all the colors in the sky at sunset are so pretty.

4. Mountaintop experiences- everything seems so perfect from on top of a mountain that sometimes I never want to go back down. I feel closer to God, because I'm on a less hectic schedule where I have free time to spend with Him.

5. The beach- Walking and feeling the sand under your bare feet, riding the waves, catching crabs at midnite(then tipping over the bucket and running and screaming at the top of your lungs), searching for shells and sand dollars in the morning. Those are some of my greatest memories as a kid.

Our pool is finally opened, woohoo! Every summer I spend all the free time I have there, I really enjoy swimming. Ashley and I went swimming for a couple hours, it was very relaxing. I wasn't able to hold my breath as long as last year, but I'll get back to that soon enough. We did some lesson planning for teaching english today, I think it'll be more fun than I thought, because the kids are energetic and like to move around, so it's not really formal teaching.
We planned some games and fun songs to help them learn, like pictionary, hangman, and head shoulders knees and toes.
I am trying to think of some more easy songs and games to help them learn words, if y'all have any suggestions that'd be awesome. Hope y'all had a nice Pentecost feast, and will talk to y'all whenever I talk to ya. Blessings,
Alicia

So we finished up our friendship killers Bible study this week. This time we also talked a little bit about God being our friend, and then went on to the subject of being the kind of friend Jesus was. We started in Exodus 33:7-11, specifically the latter verse, where it says, "And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend." Then we discussed John 15:12-15: " This is my commandemnet, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth, but I have called you friends: for all things that I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you."
Here are my notes:
Characteristics of a real friendship:
*loyalty(Proverbs 17:17- a friend loves at all times)
*in Jesus(John 15:1-5)
*self giving(John 15:12-15
*imitating Christ

Anway, I didn't do a good job on taking notes this time, so I may have missed something. I will type a longer post next time, my hand really hurts from something dumb I did and pecking out the letters is too slow. tty'all later.

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

Hey guys,
So sorry about keepin y'all hanging for so long. Have any of y'all noticed that the more you post, the harder it is to come up with somethin new to write about? I'm not giving up on bloggin, I just need to figger out what to write about. Last week I went to a Bible study called Friendship Killers, which I will finish up this week(Wednesday). It was really good, and I'll share my notes with y'all from this time.
#1 Friendship Killer- The Tongue(James 3)
How can it kill a friendship?
a.Gossip(Proverbs 20:19)
b.Lies(Proverbs 14:5)
c.Slander(Proverbs10:18) there was another verse, but I can't find it now. I'll keep lookin.
d.Negative Talk(Phillippians 4:8)

Tonite Ashley and I were having a conversation with our friends Kim and Bean about friendships and people relationships. We were talking about how different Kim and Bean are for being best friends, Kim is overly energetic and very confident, says what she thinks. I love her personality, I am totally opposite of her, quiet and not as confident, hardly ever speak up. Bean is alot like that. Anyway, we were talking abouty how cool it is that in every relationship, whether friendship or other, God puts us with someone who balances us out really well. For example, God gave Ashley a twin who is organized to keep her in line, lol. A better example would be, God gives people who aren't so confident or don't talk alot friends who are opposite of them to make them talk or be crazy sometimes. Anywho, that is what I was just thinking about, so I decided to write about it. I am sitting here knowing I need to be asleep, but not going to bed. The song I am listening to at the moment is a country western song called "Austin" by some new artist. I like it, but it's a little different too. Well, guess I relly should sleep. Hope this post makes sense, I know it's late and I usually don't know what I'm talking about at this hour.
Bye yawl ;)

I have been reading a really good book lately. Haven't had alot of reading time, so I've taken a month and still haven't finished it. It's called Not Even A Hint, by Joshua Harris. Some of You may have read about it on his blog, which is linked to Marisa's blog. There was this one part I read that just really hit me. I wrote it down on a paper and it's always a good reminder for me. It says,"Christ died so that we could be freed from the hopeless task of trying to justify ourselves."
It also says,"Our obedience cannot earn our forgiveness. Our sorrow cannot pay for our sins. Our tears cannot cover them. No amount of self-inflicted punishment can make us right before God. Even our own death is not enough." Sometimes I tend to forget how forgiving God is. I stay mad at myself for making a mistake(losing my temper, not showing respect), instead of realizing that my God has already forgiven me, and that punishing myself for it won't get me anywhere. What I need to be doing is taking that problem to Him, and totally trusting Him to help me with it. Well, I will try to make my blog rounds tomorrow and leave all of y'all a hello note. If not, I'll get to it as soon as possible. Blessings to all, and have a great week.

I still haven't finished my post, been really busy. This whole week we were up at the church running a prayer labyrinth. What that is, is a maze that you go thru while you listen to a headset, and thruout the maze there are stops where the headset tells you what to do, al relating to prayer. the 6th center was the neatest, it was a table with candles bread, and grape juice for a personal communion and time of confession. There was another center where you lit a candle for whoever came to your mind and prayed for them. Another center you put your footprints in a box of wet sand, and asked God to to help you live a life, so that when its over, you left an impression. there were alot of other centers, but I'm not going to describe every one. We sat outside the door and gave people the headsets, then told them what to do, made sure everything in the room was ready for them, etc. from 9 am to 10 pm every day this weekend. Today I am at home relaxing, not doing much of anything. At the moment I have a song by superchick stuck in my head. Here's how it goes:
" All princes start as frogs, and all gentlemen as dogs.
Just wait 'till it's plain to see, what we're growing up to be.
Some frogs will still be frogs, and some dogs will still be dogs.
Some boys can become men just don't kiss us till then."
I kinda like it, but you'd have to actually hear it to see what you think. Tomorrow I'm going to take care of my great gma's who has alzheimers', and will be there until friday. There's not alot to do over there, so I should get that next post finished by then. Well, blessings to all, thanks for waiting patiently.

Hey peeps, haven't posted in awhile because I was gonna try to find something exciting to post about. NEWS FLASH: It didn't happen. I guess this will just be one of my regular posts until I get around to that. My friend came in town this past week for her spring break, and she taught me a song in sign language called "enough". I really enjoy sign, and am thinking that when I have the funds and transportation, I would like to take some courses to be an interpreter. Someone brought to my attention the pediatrics field, that could be a fun thing. I'm trying to decide what I want to do, of course I'm not going to work my whole life. When I'm older I hope to be a full-time mom, but only God knows where my future will end up. This summer I am planning on a trip to the Ukraine. It's a camp called Radooga and what I would be doing is working to teach Russian kids English and the Bible. I am excited and nervous at the same time, because I know I'll have to step out of my comfort zone a little, but also I can learn so much, and it could be a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. I would appreciate prayer for this, being that I'm nervous. This weekend I got to learn to work a spotlight for a children's musical. The kids did great, and I was having fun. Anyway, that's my story. drop a line if you have anything to say. Blessings, Alicia

Hiya everybody! Just got back from an exciting weekend of student life, a youth conference in houston. The conference theme was Love God, Love People, relating to Mark 12:30 and 31. There were great video clips, speaking, music and drama to go with it, I think I liked the drama the best. My friend Kim came down from college just for the conference, that made me happier even than getting to meet Chris Tomlin(he was the music guest). Our kids are learning the same verse from Student Life in Sunday school this month, so I was able to come back and tell them what I learned at the conference. It was cool because they all got so excited about it. Over the time since I last posted, one of my cousins was married and had a beautiful wedding, then another cousin had a beautiful baby girl. That's the youngest baby I've ever seen, not even an hour old. I can't wait to see her again, now that she's home from the hospital. Hope everybody had a great time at SFHP, I know alot of y'all are there now and won't read this post for a few days. Oh yeah, I finally got the Casting Crowns CD, it's so cool! Hasta,
Alicia

" When God-fearin women get the blues,
there ain't no slap dab a tellin'
What they're gonna do
Run around yellin'
I got a mustang
it'll do 80
You don't have to be my baby
I've stirred my last batch of gravy
You don't have to be my baby"

This is the song that's been stuck in my head and won't get out, I heard it on CMT crossroads the other day. It was an episode with Pat Benetar and Martina Mcbride, I thought it was awesome. The song isn't even Martina's best, but there's this one part, and the way she sang it sounded cool, especially when Pat Benetar joined in. My sister likes it because it has Jerry Douglas playing the dobro(that's what she's learning to play) Tonite is an evening of relaxing, listening to Martina and checkin email. I just finished going thru TLW, it was cool. We signed commitment cards to give to our future mate that say,
" Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to be sexually abstinent until from this day until the day I enter a Biblical marriage relationship."

I think it's a neat commitment to make, the thing that will be hard is keeping the card until your wedding day without losing it. I finally saw the Two Towers, it was awesome. Spiegel is cool! I can't wait to see the next movie, hope it's good. We got a wedding on Valentine's day, one of my twin cousins is getting married, and my mom made the dress. I haven't seen it yet, but the pattern is sure purdy(or as roo would say, pretty). I got a random Bible verse for you all( some northerner grammer here, we say y'all.), then heading out. here it is:
Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds thru Christ Jesus.

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to post, but I just never got around to it. This weekend was really busy, Saturday we worked doing setup for Sunday church, the setup guy threw out his back so they called Ashley and me in. I went to bed earlier than I ever do on a Saturday nite :). Sunday we had our regular 2nd grade Sunday school, our class was in a room called Praise Place, that's the music room. They learned a scarf dance to the Doxology, of course since it's a Baptist church they called it creative movement instead(Baptists don't dance :P). I was really happy to see all my kids cooperating and I could hear everyone singing. There was a lesson that went with it, about what praise means, and helping the kids understand about praising thru song. this new way of learning is really neat, you can see how some kids respond better thru music, some being read to, others art, and some learn better thru visuals. Sunday nite was a class about teaching children the gospel, and I was glad to hear that this pastor isn't big on baptizing children. He said he doesn't want to be responsible for letting children believe they are ready to be baptized when they're not. I didn't agree with everything he said, but I was really glad to hear that. Well, I'm about to watch the Two Towers, so I'll head out for now. I hope all you guys have a great day, and don't stop by without leaving a comment. Thanks,
Alicia

Tuesday, February 03, 2004

Well, I'm back from grandma's and all is well. Saturday I got up at 6:45, and went up to help load branches the guys trimmed, rake leaves, and spread fertilizer on the churchgrounds. It was a lot of fun, the two guys in charge of landscaping are both named Joe, and Ashley gave them the nickname "the Joes". One is short and one is tall, and she calls the short one little Joe. If any of y'all are veggie fans, you've prolly seen the ballad of little Joe, and there's a song that goes with it that she decides to dedicate to him. Then we had sloppy Joes for lunch, kinda crazy, by then we were really laughing. This weekend my aunt and my great uncle came in town, so we had a little family get-together Saturday nite, it was fun, but loud. My dad's family is incapable of talking quietly, or in a normal tone, they're just naturally loud people.
Sunday I did my regular teaching in the A.M., the kids did a dramatization of the Lord's prayer. It was alot louder than I ever pictured the Lord's prayer to be, but they were having fun. That nite there was a superbowl party for the youth, and I went to it, but didn't even watch any of the game, instead I played Phase 10 all nite. Hope everybody else had a great weekend, and somewhat eventful. Blessins',
Alicia

Hey guys, I got a new blogskin that I really like, let me know what you guys think. Yesterday at work I got to use a pressure washer on the sidewalks for the first time, it was alot of fun. Then that night I went to a class called true love waits, it was awesome. We watched a video by a christian speaker named Pam Stenzel that talks about dating, saving sex for marriage, and only being interested in ppl you could see as marriage material someday. She's a really good speaker, and funny too. Well, hope everybody has a great weekend, I may post again before Saturday, but not sure. Blessings!

Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you
Fashioned by God’s hand
And perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He’s been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living breathing priceless work of art
lyrics taken from the song Fingerprints of God, by Steven Curtis Chapman

The reason I put these lyrics on here is because this song reminds me that I don't need to try and waste all my time trying to be somebody I'm not, or trying to fit in. I've wasted time trying to do that before, but realized it doesn't get you anywhere, and that if people only like you for being someone you're not, then they're not really that great of friends.
1 Corinthians 4:16 tells us "Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me." There are a few other places in the Bible where Jesus is basically saying the same thing, like 1st Corinthians 11:1, Ephesians 5:1, Phillippians 3:17. It's kinda obvious He was trying to get a point across, and if that's the case, why are there so many of us who try to be followers of men, in other words, follow the fads, change who we are just to be popular. I think I've made my point, so I'm done typing for now. Jesus Bless everyone!

Okay, I guess I'll write on the subject of being a twin. First I'll start with answering some of the common questions. Question 1: do we think alike?
Well, not really. Sometimes I'll be thinking a song and then Ashley will start singing it, or vice versa, and sometimes we say the same thing at the same time, but we're not psychic or anything freaky like that. On to the next question, do we ever play tricks on people? Yes. At camp in Glorieta we went to each other's Bible study, but the teachers were smart and it didn't work. One time I put a fake birthmark by my eye to be Ashley and tricked a few people. One fun thing about being a twin is I've always had someone my age to hang out with and never had to play by myself as a kid. One thing that I did have to do is learn to answer to two names instead of one. Some likenesses and differences about us: we don't really like to dress alike too much, but one freaky thing is sometimes we get dressed in the same clothes without even knowing it, then we fight over who has to go change. I like to wear blue, green and yellow, and she likes to wear red and orange. Also, her shoes are usually a little clunkier than mine, but we both like the same tennis shoes. Another difference, Ashley is good at volleyball, and I can't even play, but I like to run more than she does. We both like soccer and hockey alot. Another likeness is we both love to work with kids, we have a second grade sunday school class. We are different in the aspect that Ashley likes to draw and I like to write, also her voice is a little deeper. Another question I get asked alot is if we fight alot. I guess we argue about the normal amount, but nothing real big and we don't usually stay mad. Oh yeah, and the most annoying question asked by people: "Are y'all twins?" It's like, here's your sign! If y'all have anything else I need to write here about twins, just leave it in the comments and I'll answer you're question. Later dudes!

What if His people prayed
And all who bare His name
Would humbly seek His face
And Turn from their own way

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

taken from the song
What if His people prayed, by Casting Crowns

Tuesday, January 13, 2004

Hey, I'm back, hope verybody had a nice weekend. Mine was pretty busy, one friday out of every month the church has a thing called middle school madness, and another thing called gymjam(for 1st thru 5th grade), and parents drop off their kids from 6:30 to 10:00 to go out to eat. I usually work Gymjam, but I'm helping my friend Bean with middle school, to try something new, and spend more time with her for her last 7 months here. Saturday Ashley and me went to Bean's apartment and helped paint, then we all saw cheaper by the dozen. It was a cute movie, I enjoyed it. Sunday we tught our 2nd graders and then went to church service as usual, then after church I went home with one of my kids, Austin, and his family to spend the day with them. He and his sister Allie are sweet kids. We played soccer for awhile, then went over to a house that was being built and played hide n' seek in it. That nite Austin got out his bow and arrow and we went in the backyard so he could try and shoot a deer. He didn't shoot anything, but it was still fun to watch him try. Today we went over to the new neighbors' house for a little bit to play with the 11 year old, Sydnie. She's a really sweet girl and very cool. Well, gotta head out for now. Jesus Bless everybody! Alicia

Wednesday, January 07, 2004

I haven't posted in a few days, so I decided I guess it's about time. It's been a busy week, We've been at my grandma's alot helping her do stuff, and then we had our regular weekend and church, and then I just never got around to posting. I decided I wanted to post a similar post to one I saw on another blog(their title and things were a little different)-
10 reasons dogs make awesome friends
1. They always look out for you
2. They are very loving
3. They can tell when you're having a bad day
4. They like hugs
5. They listen, even if they don't understand
6. They like to go on walks(something I love)
7. They're very loyal
8. They know when to leave you alone
9. They're lots of fun
10. They like to run(something else I enjoy)
Today I got this really fun game calle twister moves, and it comes with 4 mats and a CD.
The mats have colored circles and the CD tells you where to put your hands and feet to make dances. If you mess up, you're out. My sisters and me played for 3 hours, of course we didn't kick anybody out when they messed up because we were having so much fun. Oh yeah, last year I did my read the bible in a year thing, and I think I'm gonna try to do it again, because it seems like I learn something different out of Bible verses the more times I read them. Tomorrow I gotta work, so I better head to bed. Oh yeah, last nite I beat Pepe at a contest, it was great, and I thought it would be impossible. Jesus Bless everybody, and have a great tomorrow.

Saturday, January 03, 2004

Hey guys, hope you all had fun on New Year's, or December 30-31. I had alot of fun, the church I go to had a lock-in for the youth. I'm not really included as a youth anymore, but was allowed to come anyway. What I didn't know was that they'd need me as a sponsor, but was glad to do that. We went and played Lazerquest, which I am terrible at. I got 21st place out of 30 peeps, then 17th. We went back to the church afterward, and played a really fun game called Underground church, it'a a Christian alternative to Hide n' seek, but much more exciting. I was happy to have my cousins Renee and Chrispa come, they r cool. I'm really bored, nobody got online tonite, so I'm hoping to be on at earlier times soon. Tomorrow nite I'm going to grandma's again, but will post before I leave. This Sunday is my friend Kim's last day here before she goes to school. I'm going to miss her, she's a good sign teacher, great 3rd grade sunday school teacher, but most of all an awesome friend. I have a prayer request for her, for her to do well in college, and adjust to the environment there. Thanks guys, and Jesus Bless.

Monday, December 29, 2003

Hey guys, I'm back home from grandma's, had a nice weekend, except I don't feel so great. I've got some cold, which I hope to get over fast, because all I wanna do is be lazy, and that's not like me. I want to tell you guys who read my last post, as Katie said, we aren't supposed to celebrate the birth of Christ, which I didn't know before. I already knew the part about the life, death, and resurrection, and just realized I needed to rephrase this because I sure sounded dumb. I'll put the verse on here as soon as she sends it. Thanks Katie.

Everybody can do their little dance now, I've decided to post. This week has been crazy, first we had friends come in town, which was really fun. Then, we did the whole christmas thing three different days with different parts of our family. We went to a candlelight service with my uncle and mom, he and my aunt and are methodist, and we went to one with them last year, but she wasn't able to this time because it was past the baby's bedtime. The service wasn't the best, it was the basic sinner's prayer type sermon with a little bit of christmas stuff to it. I really enjoyed watching the lady who signed the service though. I had some fun this week with everybody, but it makes me sick how Christmas has been used as a holiday to celebrate everything but the birth of Jesus. I don't think His birthday is supposed to be about us receiving gifts. Phillippians 2:3-8 says" Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Now really, how many people do you think were really thinking about this, or anything besides what was in that package they were tearing open as they were sitting under their trees? Prolly not many. Jesus wasn't even born in winter, but if people choose to take time to honor His birthday then, that's okay, if we actually are with a sincere heart. My favorite memory of Christmas is one year, whne after all the present opening was over, we went to our home church and listened to some singing, had a good fellowship with some friends, and read out of the Bible . That was the first time I ever met our friends who were just in town, and that's another reason it's my favorite Christmas, they're really sweet people. I hope y'all got something out of what I wrote and if I offended anyone in what I wrote here, I'm sorry I offended you but not sorry about what I wrote. I hope I made sense, because when I was thinking what to write it sounded much better than it does now. Sorry guys, I have trouble with words:). Well, I gotta run. Everybody have a great weekend! Alicia

Wednesday, December 17, 2003

It's been a few days since I posted, so I'll start with what I did this weekend. Saturday we went to my uncle's Christmas party. We're not really into the whole christmas thing, but the rest of our family is. We had a nice time visiting with all of our cousins, even if they are a little crazy. Sunday, we saw a christmas cantata at church, the music was so pretty, and it wasn't so much of a christmas musical this year as a worship thing, so that turned out really kewl. Later that nite me my sister and our friends Kim, Bean and Jena went to Bean's apartment, and Kim made pasta with Vodka sauce, it was very tasty. We watched the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie called Top Hat, all I have to say about that is they sure dance alot in it. Now I'm sitting here in mismatched PJ's, checking out blogs, and listening to the Blue Man Group CD I got at the library. I just started reading a book that I also checked out,
it's called "8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter". It prolly would insult the typical teenage girl, but I find it quite comical. Well, I'm gonna head out for now, everybody have a great tomorrow.

Lately I've been noticing how much things change as you get older. At first I thought turning 18 would mean no more fun, because everybody would think I was immature. But then I realized, it's not what everybody else thinks that's important, and when I go and have fun with the kids, they love me for it. As long as you know how to act like an adult, I think it's okay to be a kid every once in awhile,
because life would be too dull without kids(whether grown or small ones).

Tuesday, December 09, 2003

Well, I had a great weekend. went to church, and on Sunday nite I got to hear this little girl who I babysit sing Jesus loves me. She looked like a little angel. Her dad is the choir director and he said that she decided to sing on her own. Also I got some good news, this one guy who is on the groundskeeping comittee finally convinced the guy in charge of me and my sister picking weeds to put some roundup on them and blowtorch it. Finally, no more weedpicking, I hope. It's funny, every time my sister hears the word blowtorch, she gets this grin on her face, I'd like to know what she's thinking. Well, gotta head to bed. Later,

Today is kind of an average day. I didn't do much, my uncle and his friends came to my grandma's and we visited for awhile. Most of the conversation was about Michael Jackson being metrosexual, which lead to explaining to my grandma what metrosexual was. I just sat there and laughed while my uncle explained, it was so hilarious. I am tired and not thinking straight, need sleep. Let's see, the blog world seems kinda dead right now. Well, hopefully I'll have a more exciting post tomorrow. Guten Tag,

I got my letters fixed! The stupid whole layout on my blog had to be fixed, but I'm happy with how it looks now. I even got my Nemo pic lined up with the shoutbox, where it wasn't before. Everybody have a great day!
Later, twinskater

Yesterday I bought this really cool game called constructionary. It's kinda like pictionary, but no teams, and instead of drawing, you're building with lego. I love lego and always have, we played the game last nite and it's awesome. My friend has been having american sign language class the past two sunday nites, and so far I can count to ten, do my alphabet, say hi how are you, nice to meet you, yes, no, door, light, window, how many, my name is..., and lots more. I really enjoy it, it's alot of fun and I can't wait until I'm good at it. Well everybody have a great day,
toodles! twinskater

Well, I'm back from grandma's and all is well, except querty crashed and now the fonts are all huge and it makes my blog look weird. Did anyone miss me? I know I missed blogging while I was gone. This Sunday in Our second grade sunday school class we gave our kids a shortened version of those surveys everybody likes to pass around, especially a certain somebody(she knows who she is :). One of our questions was what is your favorite Bible story and why, and this one little girl wrote"I like Noah and the Ark the best because after all that rain, Noah must have gone swimming".
I just had to share that with y'all, especially survey girl. Well, if I don't post before, everybody have a great thanksgiving, and
enjoy your turkey!

Today my sister FINALLY got her blog, I helped her start one. So far, it consists of er one post and a shoutbox, I'll help her get a comment box and pic tomorrow, I got her password(evil laughter). J/K :) Anyway, I'll link her tomorrow.
Well, here's a verse for you, didn't take as much time picking it as I planned, so it's kind of just a random one: John 15:13- "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Today I slept in because my throat was so sore. I kinda didn't do much besides clean my room and take my dog on a walk. The breeze was nice, not to cool, just right. The park was totally empty, besides me and my Lacey, so it was very quiet and enjoyable. Alot of times we have guys playing basketball and it gets loud, I was glad that wasn't the case today. Let's see, verse for today: Psalm 121:1-2-
"I will lift mine eyes, unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LOrd, which made heaven and earth."
Have a great day, Pasta la wego!

Let's see....so this weekend was pretty much the same as most, except my sister's birthday party. It was alot of fun, we played this really kewl game kinda like charades called party quirks. One person is a host, and everybody else picks a card with a personality(we made the personalities ourselves because we don't have the game) and knocks on the door one by one. The host has the job of guessing the personalities, some of which are obssessed with B.O., Clean Freak, Way too Blonde, a mimic, too much caffiene, has an imaginary friend. I like that game so much better than regular charades, we played it for 2 hours it seemed like. Well, anyway, hope everybody had a joyful weekend. Here's my verse for today, I decided I like having one of those, gives me another reason to study my Bible every day. So, here it is: Psalm 73:25-
" Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon the earth that I desire besides thee." My prayer is that we can say to God " there is none that I desire besides thee."

Today our youth missions group went to a homeless shelter. I love doing service work, It's my evangelism style according to a book called contagious christian. We helped unload six trailers full of bags of clothes, blankets, shoes, soap, and things like that. we piled the room in the warehouse full to the ceiling with those bags, but I was glad to help out. I feel sorry for the next group who has to sort the stuff. When we were on the way downtown we saw people living in boxes and sleeping on the street. It's sad to see, but another thing we learned from the people at the shelter is these people aren't willing to change their lifestyles. I don't really understand that, but maybe it's that those people don't have any hope and need someone to bring that to them. I guess the best thing for them is prayer.
Today is my sister's birthday, so I'm gonna go chill with her and her friends(a scavenger hunt in the cold:). If anyone hasn't heard the song "Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns, I recommend it, it's awesome. I'll leave you guys with a verse for today: Galatians 5:13-
"For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty, only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another."
